Magnetic computer for field calculations

The magnet calculator makes it possible to perform field calculations for linear, i.e. bipolar, magnetized, geometrical basic units. The following basic units are available: block, disk, ring. When performing the magnetic field calculation for an axial coordinate system, you can also calculate values for spheres and strip-type magnetic plates with a fixed pole distribution.

The magnetic induction (flux density) B is calculated in mT. The field strength H in kA/m can be determined using the formula H=0.796 B.

Alongside the field strength, which is highly dependent on the start point for the measurement, the magnetic moment is also determined in 10-9 V s m and corresponds to the moment of a magnet with volume V=1 mm³ at polarization J=1000mT. This magnetic moment is independent of location and can be determined very precisely using a fluxmeter and a Helmholtz coil. It is therefore often used in the quality assurance process in order to characterize magnets. In real magnets, the field strength and moment may differ somewhat from the computed values due to tolerances, geometrical differences from the theoretical dimensions (e.g. chamfers, injection points) and surface effects.

Types of magnetic field calculation

  • Magnetic field calculation for a single axis
    • One pole, i.e. in the direction of magnetization, is known as the principal axis as per Gauss.
    • The axis vertical to the direction of magnetization is the secondary axis as per Gauss

Please always specify the distance s as the distance from the surface of the magnet to the sensitive surface of an intended sensor!

  • Magnetic field calculation at any desired point in space.

Specify the three coordinates relative to the center of the magnet.

The magnetic force is calculated directly from the characteristic magnetic values. These are the two values specified as the DIN values in the material data sheet. For example, for Neofer 48/60p, enter 48 / 60. If the second value (coercive field) is too low, i.e. the magnetization is not stable, it will not be possible to perform the calculation and a warning will be issued. If the values are acceptable, a green OK box is displayed.

On our magnetic calculator website you can perform many different calculations!
